However, this version of events appeared to be contradicted by a video of the incident published on Twitter, showing the officers by the side of the car which had come to a standstill in the traffic, one with his gun pointed at the driver.

As the yellow Mercedes AMG moved away, the officer fired. The driver was shot in the heart and lost control of the vehicle which crashed nearby. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yassine Bouzrou, Jennifer Cambla and Abdelmadjid Benamara, the lawyers of the victim’s family, said that just before the gunshot, the officer can be heard in the video saying: “I’m going to put a bullet in your head.” 

They added that the second officer can be heard saying: “Shoot him.”

One passenger was arrested, but released without charge. A second fled the scene and was being sought by police.
