A DIY has revealed the most common DIY mistakes people make and what you should be doing instead.

The new homeowner admitted she had made some of the easy mistakes herself, learning the hard way.

Sharn, who has been renovating her house shared the list in a TikTok video online. 

She said: “Right people make these DIY mistakes all the time, so I am here to call them out.”

“I’ve been renovating my home for over two years now, and have learnt all the tips and tricks you need to know often the hairs way.”

Sharn says: “Firstly peel your painters tape off while the paint is still wet – almost immediately if you can.”

“If the paint dries onto the tape you’re just going to peel it off when you peel the tape off and it just absolutely defeats the point.”

Secondly, get longer and larger rollers to paint bigger rooms.

Sharn said: “You want to get yourself a long pole and a 12 inch roller sleeve You can cover the so much more wall at once it will save you so much time and

 “The pole means you’re not bending down as much, you’re not bedding down as much and not up ladders giving yourself a neck ache trying to paint a ceiling.”

Lastly, don’t feel you have to keep your skirting boards white.

Sharn said: “I love a bit of colour drenching. You don’t have to get that perfect line between your wall and skirting colour, so it saves you a lot of time and money because you don’t have to buy a new tin of paint.”

“If your wall colour is marked wicked as suitable for wood or is an eggshell or durable matte paint it’s likely to be just fine for your skirting boards too.”

Sharn’s video racked up over 680,000 views.

“Skirting board paint is a con anyway, all goes a horrid yellow colour in less than a year. Paint formulas have developed past the need for them,” claimed a third viewer.
