It’s not every day you see an apparition of Homer Simpson but fortune favoured an East Sussex butcher who spotted him in a lamb chop.

Lee Denyer, a butcher from Hailsham, was working as usual on an ordinary day when the image of the beloved cartoon dad appeared before him.

Homer was, and remains, famous for his angry outbursts on The Simpsons, especially when his moments of outrage were caused by son Bart.

A trainee butcher at Sussex Larder, Lee spotted the familiar face ‘staring straight back’ at him – his ‘mouth’ was formed by the lamb’s spine.

And in some ways, spotting Homer’s face in a piece of lamb seems appropriate, given the his love for lamb, pork, and beef – or any meat really.

Speaking about the incident, via Lad Bible, Lee said it was just ‘an average day of work’ – he was simply ‘preparing some chops’ when he noticed the image.

‘I could see Homer Simpson staring straight back at me – an angry Homer Simpson. It was so perfect and it looked so like him,’ he said.

And looking at the pictures, it’s hard to disagree. You can clearly see Homer’s bald head, raging eyes, and wide open mouth in the thick cut of meat.

Lee says the chop was sold swiftly to a customer after the photograph was taken, leaving him feeling lucky that the bizarre phenomenon was caught on camera.

‘I’m a big fan of The Simpsons, who isn’t? Everyone loves The Simpsons. My favourite character is Homer. This chop sold very quickly, they always do.’

‘I showed people at work, they were like “That’s interesting isn’t it?” If you’re [an experienced] butcher you probably see it all the time but it stood out to me.’

The discovery Lee made comes just days after a clip of an AI version of Homer singing Arctic Monkeys’ 2013 single R U Mine went viral on TikTok.

In the viral video, Homer replaces Monkeys singer Alex Turner, with footage from a 2008 episode of The Simpsons used to show Homer fronting the band.

‘Never thought I’d hear Homer with a Sheffield accent but here we are,’ one user said, perhaps giving away that the AI’s mimicking of Homer wasn’t 100% perfect.

The Simpsons is available to stream on on Disney Plus.
