Top Premier League football figure interviewed by police over rape claim was at centre of separate probe into allegation that he attacked girl, 15, in the 1990s

A leading figure in Premier League football who was recently interviewed by the police over a rape allegation was separately accused of raping a 15-year-old girl, according to reports.

The man voluntarily attended a police station in June alongside a solicitor over a historic rape allegation against and individual known as ‘Woman A’. He was spoken to under caution but not charged.

It has now emerged that he was simultaneously being investigated by a second police force for an alleged rape and possible child sex offence in the 1990s, according to the Athletic

This relates to a complaint from an individual labelled ‘Woman B’, who was 15 at the time of the alleged offences but was reportedly told she had waited too long to make a complaint.

No further further action has been taken in relation to Woman B but police are still investigating the claims by Woman B, according to the Athletic.

A Met spokesman said: ‘On Thursday, September 23, 2021, we received a crime report regarding a historic rape allegation.

‘On Monday, 12 June, a man [age redacted] was interviewed under caution.’

A statement from the force that dealt with Women B’s complaint read: ‘Following a complex initial investigation and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, no arrests were made and no prosecution was pursued.

‘No investigation is ever closed and should new lines of enquiry emerge, the investigation could be reviewed.’

The second force could not be named for legal reasons.

The Football Association said: ‘We have robust safeguarding measures in place, and all referrals in to us are handled in line with our policies and procedures.

‘We investigate and assess all allegations and concerns about individuals who may pose a risk of harm to children and adults in football and, where applicable, can impose proportionate safeguarding measures in accordance with FA safeguarding regulations.

‘We do not comment on individual cases.’
