When Matthew Fowler set up the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice campaign, it started as a Facebook support group of 6 people. But by March 2021, it had evolved into a registered organisation with a small team.
The group has since secured an official public inquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic, and a National Covid Memorial to commemorate UK pandemic victims.
Before contracting Covid, Matthew Fowler’s father Ian, was enjoying early retirement. He went into hospital on the first day of lockdown and died on April 13th 2020 – but Matthew believes his death was preventable.
Matthew joins Sophie Braybrook to discuss why he feels the government should have enforced lockdown sooner.
