And it’s been given! LIVERPOOL 2-0 BRENTFORD

VAR deems that the ball was not out of play in the build up and Salah doubles the lead!

GOAL – SALAH… But was it out of play in the build up?

It’s Arsenal v Newcastle all over again!

A ball gets played through to the byline and Tsimikas lunges to keep the ball in play.

It looked very close with the ball seeming like it crossed the line, but the referee played on, with the cross looping to Salah who heads in.

We’ll have a VAR check…

Brentford on the ascendency here

Brentford are pushing back at Liverpool now. They’ve regained possession in the Reds’ half and have been batting the ball between eachother very nicely.

Norgaard finds himself in a bit of space on the edge of the box but can’t get his shot away.

Big collision, Endo could have been in trouble – It’ll be reviewed by VAR

Endo and Norgaard are both committed to this tackle and they clash in a nasty collision on the floor after both lunging for the ball.

Both players were sliding in and Endo catches the Brentford star on the shin with his studs.

It’s a subjective one as both players have dived in for the ball, with VAR checking for serious foul play but have decided that there was no foul.

Jensen forces a save from Allison

It’s agreat free kick from Jensen curling around the wall from around 20-yards out.

While it seemed like it was going over, Allison has to tip it over his bar just as an insurance, conceding a corner.

Matip must be careful here

He’s already on a yellow card and he’s just kicked out at Mbuemo to concede a free-kick in a dangerous position ahead of the Liverpool goal

Second half underway!

We’re back underway at Anfield!

Looks like Janelt has come off with Onyenka coming on in his place.

Early chance for Brentford as Mbuemo tries to head in a cross but Allison clears the ball away from danger.

Brentford causing problems at the back

While Liverpool go into the break a goal up, Thomas Frank’s side have caused some problems at the back for the home side.

Mbuemo, in particular, has had some great opportunities but the Bees have just lacked that final bit of quality to get the ball in the back of the net.

Mbuemo had one of the biggest chances of the match, going one-on-one with Allison but couldn’t tap the ball past the Liverpool keeper.

Salah scores but Nunez impresses

While Salah provided the difference I’ve been really impressed with Nunez so far for Liverpool.

While he’s failed to get on the scoresheet, with his first goal only narrowly being ruled out as offside, he’s been pretty much everywhere during the first half at Anfield, helping the Reds lump pressure on Brentford as they try to play out from the back.

Equally, his pass to set up Salah was perfectly weighted and he had thee vision to spot Salah on the overlap too.

Salah provides the inspiration for Liverpool!

It was a fantastic team goal with Nunez, who has had two strikes ruled out by VAR already today, teeing up the Egyptian striker who scored his ninth goal of the Premier League season.

It means he’ll be in illustrious company, becoming one of only three players, including Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, as the only players in history to have scored or assisted in 15 consecutive Premier League games!

Around the grounds…

It’s been a thrilling first 45 minutes in the Premier League so far this afternoon.

Aston Villa have taken a 2-0 lead against Fulham after an Antonee Robinson own goal in the opening 30 minutes. John McGinn followed up with their second right before half time to give Unai Emery’s side a two goal cushion heading into the break.

Simon Adringa’s early strike sees Brighton hold a 1-0 lead against Sheffield United at the Amex Stadium.

While Nottingham Forest have pulled a goal back against West Ham through Taiwo Awoniyi.

Half time!

It’s half time at Anfield, but that was close – Brentford could have found themselves in a bit of trouble there after Nunez gets pulled down as he goes through on goal.

It’s Ajer who makes the tackle, but Paul Tierney waves play on.

GOAL – WEST HAM 1-1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Taiwo Awoniyi levels for Steve Coopers side pouncing on a rebound to bring his side back into the game. It’s half-time at the London Stadium!

Liverpool baying for another

Buoyed by their goal, the Reds have been pushing for another here.

While they’ve lacked a bit of quality defensively, the Reds have had nine goal attempts and six shots on goal.

In the mean time, we’ll have six minutes of added time at the end of the first half.

GOAL – SALAH LIVERPOOL 1-0 BRENTFORD

Grat team goal for Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold plays a direct ball into Nunez, who, with his back to goal, turns to find Salah on the overlap.

The Egyptian skirts into the box and fires a shot across the goalkeeper to break the deadlock.

Klopp doesn’t look to happy on the sideline here

He’s having a chat with the fourth official here after what’s been a breathless start at Anfield.

Liverpool look very good in attack but have just havent been able to find the back of the net.

Szoboszlai has been threading some excellent crosses into the box, but Brentford are defending very deep here, denying Liverpool a lot of room.

Allison saves the day!

From a corner at one end, Brentford nearly score a breakaway goal.

Mbuemo charges down field and goes one-on-one with Allison.

Alexander-Arnold gets caught out at the back, but Allison saves the day, stopping Mbuemo’s shot.

Yellow for Norgard

He collides with Jota pulling the Portuguese forward to the floor and Paul Tierney reaches for his pocket.

Liverpool play the free-kick outwide and Jota is again pulled down on the left flank. Tsimikas whips the ball into the box and the reds get a shot away for a corner.

Nunez finds the back of the net… but it’s ruled offside AGAIN!

A corner is pumped into the box from the right side, and Van Dijk climbs in the air to head towards goal.

Flekken pulls off a stunning save, reaching with his hand to grab the ball, but it comes back into the box.

The ball is knocked into the air and it’s Nunez again with Nunez booting the ball into the right side of the goal with a scorpion kick.

VAR check confirms that the goal won’t stand.

No goal!

It was a tight call but Nunez has been ruled offside by the video referee.

It’s been a physical game so far too, with Tsimikas taking out Jensen in the build up to Nunez’s goal, while Ben Mee is down now after clashing with another team-mate.

Nunez taps in but he looks offside! This will go to VAR!

This will be checked as it looked like he was offside, but VAR will also check a tackle in the build up.

It was a great finish from Nunez who receivees the ball just off the six-yard box and taps in past Flekken.

Liverpool get caught at the back!

Brentford break through and bound upfield towards the Liverpool goal.

Alexander-Arnold recovers the ball in the penalty area, but fluffs his pass!

It falls to the feet of Mbuemo, who has a great opportunity to have a shot, but he gets his foot under the ball and hammers his shot over the bar!

Corner for Liverpool

Liverpool have looked the more dominant side at the start of this match, but Brentford are defensively staying resolute, with Ben Mee, back in the side today, heading away the corner.

GOAL – BRIGHTON 1-0 SHEFFIELD UNITED

Simon Adringa puts the Seagulls 1-0 up against Sheffield United!

The goals are coming thick and fast in the Premier League this afternoon, with Adringa showing some excellent finishing to strike the ball into the bottom left corner.

GOAL – WEST HAM 1-0 NOTTINHAM FOREST

West Ham take the lead against Forest!

It’s lucas Paqueta who puts the home side 1-0 up slamming it into the back of the net from the edge of the box.

Gakpo tests Flekken

Both sides are sussing eachother out heree but it’s Liverpool who have the first chance.

Gakpo finds himself on the eedge of the penalty area and winds up a long-range shot driving the ball at Flekken who stops the shot.

Meanwhile, Brentford have gone up the other end of the field to test Allison!

We’re underway!

There’s a great atmosphere inside Anfield ahead of this huge clash.

Klopp demanded his team show more intensity ahead of the game and the crowd will have certainly given them plenty of energy.

But we’re underway at Anfield!

We’re nearly ready for kick off

Clubs around the Premier League will observe a minute’s silence to remember men and women who have passed away serving their country.

‘This week was not what we dreamed of’ – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that his team need to show a reaction today against Brentford.

While he has reshuffled his midfield today, Klopp admitted that this was not something to be worried about: ‘At this part of the season, I think a lot of teams struggle with injuries.

‘So far this week was not the week that we dreamed of. Two results that we were not overly happy with.

‘It’s about showing a reaction. We lacked a bit of intensity in these games.’

De Zerbi confirms Ferguson back injury

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Evan Ferguson has suffered a back injury ahead of today’s clash, according to BBC Sport.

It comes after he came on to play the final 25 minutes of Brighton’s win against Ajax in the Europa League on Thursday.

Hammers stay unchanged as Moyes lauds Forest

David Moyes has lumped praise on Nottingham Forest, ahead of their clash at the London Stadium today.

Moyes said: ‘We want to try pickup from the midweek result [1-0 win against Olympiakos], it was a great result hopefully we do it today.’

On a return for Kurt Zouma he said: ‘He is hugely important to us. Getting him back is important but he feels good enough to play and hopefully he will be fine.’

Speaking on Jarred Bowen, he added: ‘I have been really pleased with him we need the competition upfront. If he keeps his goal-scoring record up that would be good, he has played well of the right and now down the centre he has done well.

‘I think Nottingham Forest had a great result against Aston Villa [last week] and they are doing an awfully lot of good things they have brought players in and got a good balance to the team.’

West Ham XI: Areola, Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson, Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Kudus, Paqueta, Soucek, Bowen.

Subs: Fabianski, Cresswell, Fornals, Antonio, Mavropanos, Ings, Ogbonna, Benrahma, Kehrer.

Nottingham Forest XI: Vlahodimos, Aina, Niakhate, Murillo, Toffolo, Sangare, Mangala, Dominguez, Gibbs-White, Awoniyi, Elanga.

Subs: Turner, Williams, Kouyate, Wood, Yates, Aurier, Origi, Danilo, Boly.

The teams are finishing their warm ups at Anfield!

In their last five meetings, Liverpool have claimed two victories against Brentford, while the Bees notably beat the Reds 3-1 in January.

And Thomas Frank has been talking up today’s opponents ahead of their 2pm kick-off.

‘For five years, Liverpool have been one of the top teams not just in the Premier League, but the world,’ Frank said in his pre-match press conference.

‘They have a fantastic coach and staff, with great players.

‘They have new energy in their squad with some of their new signings – (Dominik) Szoboszlai is a fantastic player.

‘(Darwin) Nunez is getting closer to his top, and (Diogo) Jota is a top player. (Luis) Diaz – I’m pleased to hear his parents are now safe – is a fantastic player, and then you have the standout guy, 25 plus goals, (Mohamed) Salah.

‘It is an unbelievable team at Anfield – one of the most difficult away grounds to go to, if not the most difficult.

‘It will be a tough test, but as always, we trust ourselves. We will try to take the game to Liverpool.’

Evan Ferguson injury?

Roberto De Zerbi has not included Evan Ferguson in his starting line-up to play against Sheffield United today.

Ferguson signed a new contract extension to stay at Brighton this week, but he’s been excluded today from the team, prompting questions over his fitness.

Here’s Brighton and Sheffield United’s starting line-ups for today’s game…

Aston Villa vs Fulham

Unai Emery’s side are looking to continue their fine run of form at home this season with a victory against Fulham.

But the Cottagers will present a tough challenge this week after narrowly going down to Man United last week, with Bruno Fernandes scoring late on during the match.

Emery has made three changes today following their victory against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday in the Europa League.

An injury to Diego Carlos means Pau Torres will come in at defence, while Matty Cash and Douglas Luiz come into the starting eleven fore Clement Lenglet and Leon Bailey.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Torres, Konsa, Digne, Kamara, Luiz, Tielemans, McGinn, Diaby, Watkins.

Subs: Olsen, Traore, Moreno, Chambers, Lenglet, Zaniolo, Duran, Bailey, Dendoncker.

Marco Silva, meeanwhile has been forced to replace Rodrigo Muniz after he suffered a knee injury against United last week, with Raul Jimenez taking his place.

Bobby De Cordova Reid also comes in to replace Willian.

And Brentford’s team to play at Anfield today!

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank has made several changes too, with Ben Mee returning to the side for today’s clash at Anfield.

Interestingly he has chosen to bench Neal Maupay despite the forward having scored against West Ham during their previous outing.

He’s replaced by Mads Roerslev up top, while Mark Flekken starts in goal, despite concerns over his fitness.

Liverpool team to play Brentford

Jurgen Klopp has made seven changes following his side’s defeat by Toulouse last week.

The German manager opted to play several younger stars for the match, but has brought back in some of his first-team players to secure a win today.

Allison returns to play in goal, replacing Caoimhin Kelleher while Trent Alexander-Arnold returns to the starting XI in place of Joe Gomes.

Virgil van Dijk comes back into the side following an injury, while Klopp has also brought several big stars back into the fold up higher up field.

Diogo Jota, Dominik Szoboszlai, Darwin Nunez all start, while Mohamed Salah also comes into the starting line-up.

Salah has either scored or assisted in each of his last 14 Premier League appearances – a remarkable stat that puts him in illustrious company of Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry, who are the only other players to have done so.

Wataru Endo is rewarded for his excellent form of late and earns himself a start in midfield today!

Team news coming up!

We’re an hour away from kick off and we’ll be bringing you team news from around the games this afternoon shortly!

Quick stats for you – Jurgen Klopp’s side have won all five of their opening home games this seadson. They have only started two previous seasons before winning all six of their opening home matches.

Will they win their sixth game of the season at home today?

‘It’s always interesting to play them – and difficult’ – Klopp

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s match against Brentford, Jurgen Klopp admitted that it was always ‘interesting’ playing against Thomas Frank’s side.

‘Super-challenging to play Thomas Frank and Brentford, for different reasons. They do really well,’ Klopp said in his pre-match interview.

‘I’m not sure they are 100 per cent happy with the season, but losing Ivan Toney – that player he was for them – really is brutal. But they are stable in the table, that’s probably what Brentford want – getting through this situation and then when he is coming back, using him again or whatever.

‘It’s well organised; had a few problems in the season, I would say, to get used to the game without Ivan but when you look at the table they are in the middle with a tendency [of] going up.

‘It’s well organised, sensational set-pieces, all these kind of things. Really offensive players, really fast, counter-attacking really good. They change styles from time to time; if they consider you as a top-six team then it’s a bit more defensive, if not they have a bit more possession parts.

‘It’s always interesting to play them and difficult as well. But it’s Anfield and we should use that.’

Today they come up against a stern challenge in Brentford

Liverpool will want to bounce back from a disappointing week, but it’ll be a tough ask as they welcome Thomas Frank’s side to Anfield this afternoon.

Standing in their way are Brentford, who come into this game in flying form having their last three previous outings.

Brentford put three past Burnley, before beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge and claimed a late win against West Ham last weekend, with defender Nathan Collins scoring in the second half to seal their fourth win of the season.

The Bees had been through a slump in form recently, having only secured one victory prior to that, before go five games without a win.

A win today would see them go on their first four-match winning streak in the top-flight since March 1939!

Klopp reflects on Liverpool’s loss to Toulouse

Liverpool come into today’s game against Brentford having not won in their last two previous outings.

A last-gasp Luis Diaz goal secured a 1-1 draw for the Reds against Luton last Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp’s side suffering defeat again in midweek.

They were beaten 3-2 by Toulouse in the south of France, but there was controversy at the end.

Jarell Quansah scored a late goal but it was disallowed by referee after Alexis Mac Allister appeared to handle the ball in the build up to the goal.

Klopp was seething after the match, delivering quite an interesting post match press-conference, while saying: ‘I only saw the video back now and for me it’s not a handball, but how can I decide that? The ball goes to the chest and then I don’t see a contact with the arm, to be honest.

‘Maybe they had a different picture than I had. It was pretty long ago before we scored the goal and I thought, “Where is the free-kick?” I didn’t see it properly but I heard there could have been a penalty for us in another situation, I don’t know.
