Alejandro Garnacho liked a social media post criticising Erik ten Hag after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.

The 19-year-old was substituted at half time after United registered a dismal first-half display in which Bournemouth took the lead twice through Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert.

Bruno Fernandes equalised for United in the first half and then pulled his team level from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, but the draw leaves Ten Hag’s side with just one win in seven Premier League games.

In two posts on X, United social media influencer Mark Goldbridge labelled Ten Hag’s decision to substitute Garnacho as a ‘joke’ and criticised the United manager for ‘criticising ‘blaming’ the Argentine winger in his post-match press conference.

‘Garnacho has been one of our best players this season,’ Goldbridge posted during the game.

‘Poor first half but taking him off at half-time and holding him up as the problem is a joke. Many have done much worse week in week out and are still out there.’

Goldbridge followed up with a second post after the full-time whistle which read: ‘Ten Hag subtly blaming Garnacho in the post-match press conference… not a good look throwing a 19-year-old under the bus who has actually delivered for you this season. But then again he’s clearly scared of upsetting the bigger earners.’

Both posts were liked by Garnacho’s official account on X.

When asked about his decision to replace Garnacho with Amad Diallo at half time, Ten Hag said:

Asked if that was the reason why Garnacho was substituted, Ten Hag replied: ‘I think we had to repair over that right side.

‘We didn’t play well, the spaces were there in possession, we had to bring a sub there.

‘Garnacho was not training during the week, only yesterday, we thought bring some energy, bring some more quality, quality in the sense of co-operation, togetherness on that right side.’
