A CLEANING hack has shocked many who were unaware of just how much dirt was lurking on their water bottle.
Stanley water bottles have proven popular with those who are looking to stay hydrated both on the road and at the gym.
However, a viral video reveals not everyone has been cleaning their bottles thoroughly.
Chanelica (@chanelica.r) shares her weight loss journey on TikTok, where she is steadily growing a loyal following.
She took to the social media platform to share advice on how to clean the lid of Stanley water bottles after being horrified by how much mold she found on hers.
“Did you guys know that this part of your Stanley comes off?” she said while lifting the top.
“But not only does it come off, there is so much mold under here. I saw another creator post this video and her name was Skyler.
“She took the top off of her Stanley and I was very surprised by how much mold was underneath hers.
“I just knew that I needed to get mine clean.”
Chanelica added a cap full of bleach and dish soap into a medium-sized bowl filled with hot water.
She used a fork to mix the substances before leaving the lid from her insulated water bottle to soak in it for a few hours.
“Just making a concoction to make sure this gets extra clean because it is filthy,” she said.
The water bottle lid looked visibly cleaner after a few hours of being soaked in the mixture.
“Can you believe how much mold was in here? YUCK!” she captioned the post.
Chanelica explained how she removed the lid, saying: “You have to push the two pieces underneath together and press it! It’s tough.
“Before I bought the cup I had no idea the two parts separated. I would just put the whole top piece in the dishwasher.”
The video went viral with over 606,000 views and thousands of likes from people who were shocked by the hack.
Many people took to the comment section thanking Chanelica for sharing her advice but warning that it would be safer to substitute bleach for vinegar.
“Just learned this and took mine apart, thankfully no mold!” one person wrote.
“The green silicone piece where your straw goes into the cup. It also comes off, mine had mold there as well [sick],” another commented.
“Wow didn’t know,” a third chimed in.
“Mine didn’t have any mold lol I’ve had it for almost one year. I would buy a new one if I saw mold lol,” a fourth said.
“I’d repeat it two more times, great idea! I’m going to check mine out,” another added.
