Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) wasn’t best pleased in EastEnders after Zack Hudson (James Farrar), who she’d been offering advice and support to all day, leaned in for a kiss.
Zack, as fans know, has been struggling to come to terms with Whitney Dean’s (Shona McGarty) decision to foster Britney Wainwright (Lola Campbell), who she met in Milton Keynes.
Britney was a regular at Bianca Jackson’s (Patsy Palmer) flat, often popping over for food when her own mum Keeley failed to feed her. Feeling a connection towards the girl, Whitney vowed to look after her no matter what, despite the fact that she’s pregnant.
Zack felt let down and unsupported, with Whitney having failed to inform him of her decision to look after Britney, not to mention the fact that she’d found out they were having a baby girl, which she also neglected to tell him.
As a result, he took himself back to Walford.
His return got tongues wagging, with various residents keen to know where Whitney was and why he’d returned without her. Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) for one gave him a piece of her mind while Lauren proved more supportive.
Zack confided in Lauren about how he was feeling over the Britney situation. Lauren completely saw Zack’s point of view but, knowing how much he cares about Whitney, she encouraged him to reach out.
Zack admitted that he missed his beloved Whitney and thus set about making contact. Whitney, however, ignored his calls.
With Zack having packed in his job, he headed for the Vic, where he proceeded to get drunk. Lauren, concerned, called Whitney, who picked up for her.
Despite Lauren’s pleas, Whitney had little sympathy, telling her that Zack knows where she is if he wants to get in touch.
Zack, meanwhile, proceeded to get more and more drunk and later decided to join Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) in bringing the party back to their flat, but Lauren put a stop to it, ordering Zack to return home and sober up.
Feeling for him, Lauren later joined Zack for some chips outside Beale’s Plaice, offering him words of encouragement. But as she described how good a man he is, Zack misread the signals and leaned in for a kiss!
Lauren was disgusted and stormed off. Whitney, meanwhile, finally made contact with Zack, who struggled to know if he should pick up in light of what he’d just done.
Way to overcomplicate things Zack!
