The Bad Guardian is a fictional story about somebody put under guardianship by the courts, inspired by Britney Spears‘ case.
Melissa is playing a character call Leigh, who is fighting to release her dad from the clutches of an evil guardian, played by La La Anthony.
Her latest role comes after fans were furious that she played a grandma in the film Would You Kill For Me? The Mary Bailey Story.
The actress is best known for playing Sabrina Spellman from 1996 until 2003 in cult classic Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
During the 90s Melissa also starred in the title role of series Clarissa Explains It All, which originally ran from 1991 to 1994.
Sabrina was recently rebooted for Netflix, but Melissa has ruled out a reunion with the original cast.
She told E! Online: “As much as I had a blast on the show, I think [a reboot] would be over-critiqued.
“I’ve never really wanted to go back to Sabrina.”
Further dashing fans’ hopes, she later added: “I just don’t think it would be as great as the original.
“I just don’t think there’s any way. People are nostalgic for what they had. Trying to recreate that can be really difficult, as we’ve seen.”
Clarissa Explains It All was also set to be rebooted, but was cancelled.
Melissa was happy about the decision as she admitted she wasn’t a fan of the proposed plot.
